Vacation on the Lofoten Islands

Welcome to the Lofoten Islands, the Arctic paradise in northern Norway. This island archipelago offers spectacular views of mountains surrounded by the sea, white coral beaches and picturesque fjords. Experience a world where the sun never sets during the summer months. In the glow of the midnight sun, the mountains and fjords are particularly majestic.

In winter, the region’s natural landscape is stunningly cinematic with icy beaches, snow-capped peaks and mystical lighting. Unpredictable weather can transform the setting from sunny and clear to dramatic and mysterious. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, winters in Northern Norway are comparatively mild, a comfortable advantage in the winter wilderness.

Northern lights in Northern Norway

Fascinating Northern Lights

From September to April, the archipelago transforms into a completely different but equally fascinating natural paradise. The polar nights bring darkness and, with it, the spectacular aurora borealis. The Northern Lights dance across the sky in veils of green, violet and red, bathing the landscape in a mystical light. Your chances of experiencing clear nights and intense Northern Lights are especially high between October and March.

With its unspoiled nature, rich culture and warm hospitality, Lofoten is a unique destination that is sure to delight at any time of the year. It’s a place just waiting to be discovered by you.

First traces of human settlement date back to the year 425 B.C. in Nusfjord, which experienced a golden age at the beginning of the last century and is a true treasure trove of history. This unique fishing village offers a deep insight into an era in which the Northeast Arctic cod (skrei) lay on the cliffs and hung to dry on stands over the entire area. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were more than 1,500 fishermen living in Nusfjord. The walls of the restaurants and work buildings are covered with images of fish and fishing boats, as far as the eye can see. Many of the old work buildings, such as the forge, the smoke furnace, the boat houses and the cod liver oil factory, have been preserved and now form the part of the tour that brings you closer to the history of the Lofoten Islands.
