The Mighty 5®
No less than 5 majestic national parks came into existence through wind and erosion millions of years ago. They feature untouched nature with numerous red rocks, stone arches, canyons, buttes, and cliffs.
Arch in German means “archway” and gives us the first hint about what constitutes the national park: over 2,000 stone arches characterize the landscape. The emblem is the 16-meter-high Delicate Arch. The panoramic road Arches Scenic Drive invites you to take a road trip and promises many other highlights such as the Balanced Rock and the Double O Arch.
The Bryce Canyon in the southwest of Utah is located at an elevation of 2,400 to 2,700 meters and offers spectacular views. The so-called Hoodoos – an amphitheater made out of buttes – make it distinctive. The Rim Trail along the cliff edge or the Queen’s Garden Trail in the amphitheater inspire hikers each day anew. Our tip: Sunrise at Bryce Point – simply magical!
In Canyonlands there is much to discover. The park splits into three areas: Island in the Sky, The Needles, and The Maze. The Colorado and the Green River stretch across the country and complete the natural spectacle. The Grand View Point Overlook provides a fantastic view over canyons and mesas – the perfect place to catch your breath.
It is the youngest of Utah’s 5 national parks and was established in 1971. It owes its name to the white domes of Navajo Sandstone (Capitol) and the stony cliffs that are reminiscent of a coral reef (Reef). The highlight: Waterpocket Fold, a 150-kilometer-long tectonic fault.
Last but not least: Zion in southwest Utah, on the border to Arizona and Nevada. Highlights such as the Zion Canyon, the Emerald Pools, The Narrows, the Virgin River, and The Watchman should not be missed under any circumstances.

Interplay of colors
The Great Salt Lake is separated into two parts by a railway embankment. This results in a different salt content that in turn influences countless organisms. In the northern Gunnison Bay, pink-colored microbes, which contain carotenoids, color the water pink, especially in late summer.
From lake to surreal salt flats
Around 15,000 years ago, Lake Bonneville occupied a third of Utah’s entire area. When the lake dried out, salt deposits, the Bonneville Salt Flats, formed. However, one part of the lake survived and is today known as Great Salt Lake throughout the world.
Why the Beehive State?
The beehive has made it onto the flag of the US state of Utah as the central element. It is considered the symbol of industriousness and was made the symbol of the state when Utah was founded.
Delicious fun fact!
Jell-O is the official state snack and is extremely popular among Utah’s inhabitants. Especially in Salt Lake City: the inhabitants here eat more Jell-O than anywhere else in the USA.
